JANUARY 2026
Stewards of the Future: The Women Guiding the Forest Hill Library District
The strength of the Forest Hill Library District rests not only in its walls and collections, but in the dedicated leaders who guide its mission forward. This January, The Bookmark proudly highlights the Forest Hill Library District Board of Trustees — five women united by service, leadership, and a shared belief that the library is a cornerstone of community growth.
Together, Dr. Nicole Houston-Johnson (President), Raquel McFadden (Vice President), Charlotte Hogan-Price (Treasurer), Sharon Peevy (Secretary), and Angela Cruz (Asst. Secretary) bring diverse experience, deep local roots, and a steadfast commitment to ensuring the library continues to serve as a building block for Forest Hill’s future.
🌿 Leadership Rooted in Purpose
Appointed to the Board in 2019, Dr. Nicole Houston-Johnson brings a wealth of knowledge shaped by her lifelong dedication to education and community engagement. As an active member of the Texas Association of School Administrators for Supervision and Curriculum Development, a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and a committed STEM mentor, she embodies visionary leadership. Her passion for empowering learners of all ages reinforces the library’s role as a gateway to opportunity and lifelong learning.
📚 A Legacy of Commitment
Few embody institutional knowledge and devotion like Ms. Charlotte Hogan-Price, whose service to the Library District spans years of leadership. Having served in nearly every officer role — President, Vice President, Secretary, and now Treasurer — she represents continuity, stability, and wisdom. Her dedication has helped shape the Board’s growth and ensured responsible stewardship of resources that benefit the entire community.
🏡 Community at the Core
Appointed in 2017, Ms. Sharon Peevy, a proud Forest Hill resident for over 30 years, brings a strong sense of civic responsibility to her role as Secretary. A retiree of AT&T, she remains actively engaged in community initiatives, offering valuable perspective, organization, and consistency. Her service reflects the belief that the library belongs to the people — and thrives when rooted in local voices.
🌎 A New Generation of Leadership
As the Board’s newest Trustee, Angela Cruz represents the future of Forest Hill. A lifelong resident, avid reader, and outdoor enthusiast, she brings fresh energy and thoughtful insight. With degrees in Environmental Science and Spanish, Angela combines scientific understanding with cultural awareness — a perspective that strengthens the library’s evolving role in education and inclusion. Her passion for giving back fuels her excitement for upcoming initiatives and meaningful change.
🤝 United in Service
Alongside Vice President Raquel McFadden, whose compassion and advocacy reflect decades of service to families and children, the Board operates as a unified body — grounded in collaboration, trust, and purpose.
Together, these five women share a continued and unwavering support for Executive Director Michael Hardrick and his professional staff. Their partnership ensures that library operations, programming, and future initiatives align with the community’s needs while honoring the vision that built the district.
From supporting the library expansion project to championing access, innovation, and engagement, the Board of Trustees remains committed to strengthening the library as the heart of Forest Hill.
🌟 A Living Legacy
The Forest Hill Public Library stands today because of leaders who understand that libraries do more than house books — they build communities. Through thoughtful governance, shared vision, and steadfast dedication, the Board of Trustees continues to shape a future where learning, connection, and opportunity remain accessible to all.
As we begin a new year, we celebrate the women whose leadership ensures the library’s legacy not only endures — but grows.
